Pick up a free city map from your hostel and stroll into the old town to Marienplatz to watch the somewhat baffling Glockenspiel. Proceed to the Viktualienmarkt (farmers’ market) and treat yourself to a Bavarian breakfast of Weißwurst & Weißbier. Work off your healthy breakfast by scaling the ancient Alter Peter (church) and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city and the imposing Alps. Window shop in the pricey Maximilian Strasse, before heading to Europe’s largest municipal park, the Englischer Garten to marvel at the surfers on the Eisbach. Take a well earned break at the Chinese tower and indulge in a litre or two of Bavarian beer, before playing football with the locals.
Head back to your hostel to freshen up before heading out to dinner at one of the city’s many fabulous beer halls…well this is the European beer capital after all!
