Highlights

The new planetarium in the "Mediendom Kiel“ is a "must" in Kiel. Different shows give insight into the universe, the stars, life in the jungle (yes!) or present a sensational music performance with "Fury in the slaughterhouse", a German rock band.

The aquarium gives you for a 1 entrance fee an overview of the animals in the Baltic Sea. Outside the building is an open basin where seals can be watched (some people say the seals are watching the public)

The locks of Holtenau at the end of the Kiel Canal: You are close to enormous trade ships like highly loaded container ships or tanker with their confusing net of silver shining pipelines all over the decks. With some luck you get a sight of a cruise ship on its way through the canal.

Beach of Falckenstein, a long natural sandy beach at the most narrow part of the Kieler Frde. The best place for leisurely walking, swimming and ship spotting.

The open air museum of Molfsee: Houses, mills, barns and shops of the last 500 years can be seen and experienced there.

The surrounding: By bike you are in beautiful landscape within minutes. The network of bikeways and narrow farm roads allows easy going through the smooth hilly landscape of Schleswig-Holstein. You find forests, beaches and lakes close to the city within half day trip distance.

Of course: Sailing, sailing sailing!!! With your own boat, with a sailing school or in a charter boat; from small jolly boats to a three mast tall ship everybody will find what suits them.
